In motion

April 13

St. Christopher, pray for us!

Not too much to report except that we are now in major motion mode as we travel across the country to St. Augustine, Florida. A few mishaps along the way. Perhaps the most serious was the lifting of a solar panel that might have flown off on the interstate, but thanks be to God, we heard a new rattling in the RV that unsettled us. I have not ever really driven an RV long distance but you become familiar with the rattles.

Otherwise, we are now in Lafayette, Louisiana. Should arrive tomorrow around in St. Augustine at 6 p.m.

As I was driving, I played some old music from my high school days. I date myself. But still, it is good music especially for the open highway when clear of urban traffic and the long ribbon forward; east of El Paso. I listened to Fool’s Paradise and was struck by the lyrics and how they can be subjectivized to have wonderful meaning for the heart seeking a vocation. The good thing about music is that it helps the imagination wander on these long drives and now since all is focused on vocations, these lyrics really struck me.

Here’s a link to the music. If you have a few minutes listen to it and read the lyrics provided below. Perhaps it can induce a prayer. It’s not a Church hymn, but it has a message that reaches out. Let’s not let our Catholic culture fall!

Lyrics:

History recalls how great the fall can be
While everybody’s sleeping, the boats put out to sea
Borne on the wings of time
It seemed the answers were so easy to find
“To late, ” the prophets cry
The island’s sinking, let’s take to the sky

Called the man a fool, stripped him of his pride
Everyone was laughing up until the day he died
And though the wound went deep
Still he’s calling us out of our sleep
My friends, we’re not alone
He waits in silence to lead us all home.

So tell me that you find it hard to grow
Well I know, I know, I know
And you tell me that you’ve many seeds to sow
Well I know, I know, I know

Can you hear what I’m saying
Can you see the parts that I’m playing
“Holy Man, Rocker Man, Come on Queenie,
Joker Man, Spider Man, Blue Eyed Meanie”

So you found your solution
What will be your last contribution?
“Live it up, rip it up, why so lazy?
Give it out, dish it out, let’s go crazy,
Yeah!”
